Besides the splendid beauty and ruggedness of the Moors, ideal for
walkers, there is plenty to do in Saddleworth for those with a little
time to spare.
Dovestones
Reservoir is a popular place to visit, with a wide path around
it made suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs. Watch out for the
sheep who at certain times of the year, can be so friendly they
will come to join in and eat your picnic as well.
The canal towpaths allow you
to appreciate the countryside, whilst those with less energy can
cruise on a narrowboat taking a journey along the canal and through
the lock.
For those rainy days, Saddleworth
Museum in Uppermill will keep children and adults engaged whilst
learning more about the local heritage and history, and is also
home to the local Tourist Association where maps and guides to the
area can be obtained.
Links to some leisure attractions are shown here, whilst details
on Saddleworth Community organisations who run concerts,
art displays, drama and other leisure activities can be found in
the Organisation
section.
